BHS Band Booster Volunteer Opportunities
As parents, we are all busy with families, work and other involvements. We appreciate any time and effort you can volunteer for our organization.
• The Classic- Sunday, October 18, 2009 starting at 1:30 PM .
This is our major fundraiser of the year. The Classic is a marching band competition we host at BHS. EVERYONE IS NEEDED! A separate packet will be sent home to all band members detailing how you can helpProgram for the Classic- The coordinator compiles the program and arranges with the district graphic department to have the booklet printed. The Classic ad coordinator contributes the business ad portion to this undertaking. Band families ask area businesses to advertise in the program. • Boutique- Sell band related merchandise at home football games and concerts.
• Chaperones- Parent chaperones (a minimum of two are required per bus) are mandatory for all band trips and are admitted free to the events when accompanying the band. A Chaperone Coordinator organizes the schedule of volunteer chaperones for away football games and competitions.
• Pit Bulls- Do you like to BBQ? This support group also moves the equipment on and off the field during band camp, evening rehearsals, football games and competitions. They repair, load and move equipment, set up lighting and manage security for band activities throughout the year. Their official shirts, hats and jackets easily identify the Pit Bulls.
• Car Wash- Adults needed to make sure the hoses are aimed at the cars and not the students! Towel washers are also appreciated. 2 or 3 car washes per year.
• Additional Fundraising- Additional funds were raised last year at restaurant nights, a fall mum sale, donated raffled gift baskets and a rock concert benefit. We are always looking for new and innovative ideas!
• Uniforms- Several people are needed during band camp to fit the students with uniforms.
• Uniform Manager- The uniform manager oversees the distribution of band uniforms during band camp. The manager and assistants document the uniform number assigned to each marching band member and coordinate size requirements. The manager oversees the collection of uniforms at the end of the season.
• Ticket sales for Competitions- Tickets to marching band competitions are sold in the BHS parking lot after Thursday evening rehearsals, at football games and before the buses leave for the competition.
• Ticket sales for concerts.
• Jazz Festival Volunteers- Our second largest fundraiser is held in the spring. Ticket sales, concessions, hostesses and raffle sales are some of the positions requiring volunteers!
• Spirit Wear/Fall Clothing- Take orders, collect money and distribute T-shirts and sweatshirts early in the band season. • Hot Cocoa Night (Thursday, October30)- Cocoa and munchkins served at the end of rehearsal.
• Chapters Celebration (Saturday, October 24th)- Sparkling cider and doughnuts are provided for all after the competition. Organizer purchases the treats and serves with some additional helpers. Senior Recognition (Saturday, November 8)- A non-senior parent contacts the senior class parents with the details of recognizing the senior class band students during half-time of the last home football game of the season. The coordinator orders flowers, which the senior parents pin on their student’s uniform during the ceremony.
• Senior Recognition (Last home game - November 14th)- Require a parent of a "non-senior" (parents of seniors are part of the event) to plan and execute the event. During half-time of the last home football game, senior band members are introduced one by one to the crowd and joined by their parents, on the field, where they are presented a flower and applause.
• Band Banquet (tentatively Wed., November 18th)- Require volunteers to organize this party where Marching Band members and their families enjoy a nice dinner and awards. All band members get their 30 seconds of fame, as well as the staff and Boosters. Always a great time. Will need some help making each senior their own keepsake doll, as well.
• Hayride (to be scheduled)- Come and enjoy the crisp fall air and make smores by the bonfire. Need someone to make arrangements. It has been at Bellevue State Park. A fun event for the entire family.
