Performance Expectations and Guidelines

ALL PERFORMANCES ARE MANDATORY!!

There are very few things that will be considered an excused absence from a performance. All concerns need to be addressed with the band director by the parents directly.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR PERFORMANCES

1. Check the website under the schedule tab to stay up to date with report times. Some report times may not be available until the week before a performance.

2. All band members need to be in the band room at the report time for attendance and announcements.

3. Band members should arrive at least ten minutes before the report to get equipment ready and be in the band room on time.

4. Shoes must be cleaned and polished for all performances.

5. Long hair must be pinned up as not to hang out of the hat.

6. Jewelry may not be worn while in uniform.

7. Jeans may not be worn under uniform pants for any reason!

8. Black socks must be worn whenever in uniform. No “ankle socks”, we do not want to see bare legs between the shoes and pant cuffs.

9. Students must ride school provided transportation to and from all away performances. Any requests to do otherwise must be cleared with the director via parental contact no less than 1 week prior to the performance.

10. Students must keep instruments in good working order. There is not much that can be done if a student brings a broken instrument to the director prior to a performance.

11. At performances all band members will travel as a group. Breaks will be provided and directions will be explicit about what students can and cannot do.

STUDENT CONDUCT

All Brandywine School District and Brandywine High School Student Code of Conduct Policies are in effect whenever the members of the band are assembled. The following behaviors will not be tolerated under any circumstance:

1. Profanity

2. Showing disrespect to chaperones

3. Showing disrespect to other band members

4. Showing disrespect to other bands

Students who are suspected of drug or alcohol use while a member of the band will be turned over to the BHS administration for disciplinary action, no questions asked!

Whenever the band members are assembled they are representing the following people:

1. The Brandywine High School community

2. The Brandywine School District community

3. The Director

4. Their parents

5. The legacy of excellent left behind by all Brandywine High School Marching Wind and Percussion Alumni

Current band members are expected to always remember this and do everything within their power to represent their school, parents, director and the legacy by former members with the highest standards of excellence and pride.

ADDITIONAL PERFROMANCE NOTES

CELL PHONES AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS

Students who bring cell phones and other personal belongings to performances are responsible for them. The marching band director, instructional staff and chaperones will not be responsible for any personal belongings that are lost, stolen or damaged.

COLD WEATHER

1. Wearing long insulated underwear is strongly advised

2. Warm heavy wool socks are a great asset for keeping the feet warm

3. Hand and toe warmers may be used before and after performances

BREAKS AND FOOD AT PERFORMANCES

1. At football games the band will be given the 3rd quarter to take a break and get food and drinks—money is needed for concession stand purchases

2. At competitions students will be given the opportunity to visit concession stands following their performance. At competitions students will travel as a group

PICK UP FROM PERFORMANCES

1. Every effort will be made to give parents an accurate pick-up time after performances.

2. Please understand that due to the nature of our performances we need to be flexible. We have no control over a football game going into overtime or a competition running behind schedule.

3. Students are not to “call home when we return to the school.” Too often this leaves a child left after everyone else has left because the parents could not be reached.

4. Parents need to be at the school at the reported return time.

5. With most students owning cell phones now, students will be instructed to call their parents in the event that our return time has been delayed.
