Listed below are only the very major events. However, the Marching Band season is very, very full of activities. There are competitions, football games, special performances, parades, fund raisers and family fun events. Be sure to check them all out under both the Parent Support tab and the Schedule tab.
The Classic 2009 - Chairperson(s):
This is one of the main events of the marching band season. This year, it is scheduled for Sunday, October 18th starting at 1:30 PM and will feature the University Of Delaware Blue Hen Marching Band.
This is also one of the main fundraisers for the bands that help offset the cost of all four BHS bands.
The event requires its own sub-committee that will perform all the planning and actual administration of the event. It requires a lot of volunteers.
- Some of the actions for a successful Classic are:
- Invitations to other bands
- Programs - soliciting advertising, creating the layout, printing and sales
- Reserving Judges
- Acquiring trophies (labeled)
- Day of activities: Concessions; Tickets; Band Registration and orientation; Parking; Crowd control; etc.
The following two events are not Marching Band Events but are major Booster events. The Boosters support all the bands: Marching, Jazz, Concert, and Symphonic.
The Jazz Festival - Chairperson(s):
The Jazz Festival is an annual tradition at Brandywine High School. Brandywine's own Blazers host other high schools as well as the middle schools in the district. One will be amazed at the amount of talent showcased at this event.
Actions for a successful Jazz Festival are similar to the Classic, but to a smaller scale. There are still:
- Invitations; Programs/Advertising; Judges; Trophies; Tickets and stage help
Concerts
The Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands conduct two concerts during the school year: the Holiday concert, held in December and the Spring concert in April/May. These concerts include all students in the music program and are definitely proud parental moments. As directior, Mr. Satcher challenges the students with varying types of music and if you are video recording you will definitely want to take the program home and download the music (professionally recorded but not necessarily better) to your IPod.
These concerts involve planning and support. Programs don't necessarily include sponsors/advertising but are still important and are collected for the memory book. Tickets are sold (to help support the music program) as well as refreshments.
