BAND CAMP 2010
- Monday, August 2 through Friday August 6
- Monday August 9 through Friday August 13
- We will practice daily from 8:00am until 4:30 pm with a lunch break on Campus from 12:00 to 12:30pm each day.
- BATTERY PERCUSSION - Please be advised that your times may be adjusted to accomidate the work schedules of our instructional staff.
Attendance to Band Camp is Mandatory this year.
If students have minor conflicts that effect only a few days of camp please contact Mr. Bell @ john.bell@bsd.k12.de.us as soon as possible. Students cannot participate in the marching band this season if they cannot attend band camp in it's entirety.
WHAT IS BAND CAMP?
Marching band is very different from concert band. The marching band’s first performance is very early in September, after which the band continues to perform weekly until the 2nd weekend in November. The success of the band is dependent on a productive, well attended band camp. Band Camp is designed to be an intensive educational experience where the students begin to mold and develop their identity as a performing unit. It is a highly energized time when most of the upcoming season’s material will be taught.
The following objectives are addressed at band camp:
- Winds, percussion and color guard will learn proper marching technique
- All instrumentalists learn the music they will perform during half time
- All members of the band except the pit learn the drill they will march while playing the half time show
- All instrumentalists will learn the music they will perform in the stands at football games
- Color guard members will learn their flag and dance routines for the halftime show
- Students will participate in planned activities to build a strong sense of team spirit and school pride among all members
The ultimate goal of band camp is to learn as much of the field show (half time show) as possible so that students can focus on perfecting their show and practicing music for football games once school has started. The band is scheduled to rehearse 3 nights a week once school starts, however, the more material that is mastered in band camp the less we will rehearse once school has begins.
